MOVING CHECKLIST

Use the following checklist to ensure you do not overlook anything that may cause you unnecessary trouble or expense.

ABOUT A MONTH BEFORE MOVING:

[ ] Go through the house and garage and discard all those things you won’t move.

[  ] Select a moving company. Prepare an inventory of goods to be moved.
  
[  ] Fill out change-of-address forms. Change of Address 
  
[  ] Obtain all dental and medical records and transfer prescriptions. 
  
[  ] Notify schools and request transfer of school records. 
  
[  ] Check auto licensing requirements. 
  
[  ] Arrange pet shipment and obtain immunization records.

[  ] Begin to use up the food in your freezer.

ABOUT TWO WEEKS BEFORE MOVING 
  
[  ] Notify utility companies here and in your new city when you will move out and when you will move in. 
  
[  ] Transfer or close your bank accounts.  Arrange to have sufficient cash or transfer’s to cover the cost for moving and of living in your new city until you can open new bank accounts. 

[  ] Make sure insurance coverage continues after your move. 
  
[  ] Make travel plans. Have your car inspected and serviced. Make hotel reservations. 
  
  
ABOUT ONE WEEK BEFORE MOVING 
  
[  ] Notify your post office of your new address. 
  
[  ] Arrange to have your telephone disconnected. 
  
[  ] Arrange cancellation of newspaper. 
  
[  ] Pick up dry cleaning. 
  
[  ] Make a first-aid-kit and care packages. 
  
[  ] Set things aside to pack in your car. Pack suitcases. Confirm hotel reservations. 

  
ON MOVING DAY 
  
[  ] Carry currency, jewelry, important documents yourself. 
  
[  ] Double check closets, shelves, drawers to be sure they are empty. Make sure windows are down, lights out and doors locked.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE
