Leesburg is a picturesque town located about an hour northwest of Orlando. It sits on the Lake Wales Ridge, a range of hills that runs north to south through northern and central Florida. Most of the downtown structures were built during three commercial building booms: the first in the 1870s, the second in the 1920s, and the third in the mid-50s. The interiors have been renovated, but the original facades capture the essence of the eras in which they were built. The Downtown Business Association and the City of Leesburg, along with the Chamber of Commerce, formed the Leesburg Partnership in a united effort to preserve the town's heritage while furthering controlled growth. Major employers include the Leesburg Regional Medical Center, United Southern Bank, The Villages, Huntington Banks, and Prudential Insurance. The business climate in Leesburg favors relocating companies through ad valorem tax abatement, utility impact fee financing, expedited permitting, fully digital telephone service/fiber optics, and more. Located on the shores of Lake Harris, the Venetian Cove Marina is a one-stop service zone complete with boat storage areas, fuel, rest rooms, food and supplies. A boat ride beginning at Lake Harris can take cruisers to several tributaries of the Oklawaha River, such as Lake Griffin, Lake Beauclaire, Lake Harris, Lake Dora, and Lake Yale, and Little Lake Harris. These waterways connect and flow into the Atlantic Ocean.
